For Japanese-American couple, Kelly and Mary Adachi, the journey of acceptance leads from the flower shop deliveries in Hollywood, the bowels of incarceration in Arkansas and finally toward the realization of a dream in Cincinnati. Boodie and Bambi: A Nisei Story, is a tale rooted in how one family preservers during uncertain times.
Narrated by eldest son, Michael Adachi, the story is structured around the four “movements” of the Adachi family:
1)Childhood in Los Angeles;
2)Incarceration at Rohwer, Arkansas;
3)Overseas in Italy during WW2;
4)Finding a home in the Midwest;
Revealed chronologically, each chapter
represents a significant challenge the Adachi’s faced.
